By means of this assessment insurance companies can improve their calculation and control of the risks. Lloyd’s still is the leading organisation for the classification of ships. Lloyd’s Register is a Notified Body (Nobody) according to the EU directives, an inspection authority acknowledged as an independent inspection authority by the government. LR originates from the same coffeehouse of Edward Lloyd as the famous insurance company Lloyds of London, but is completely independent. The main office of Lloyd's Register has its seat in London and Lloyd’s is being represented in most industrialized countries. Together with Debt Norske VERITAS (Norway), American Bureau of Shipping (USA) Bureau VERITAS | (France) and RINA (Registry Italian Naval; Italy) LR (U.K.) is one of the most important classification-bureaus. Lloyd's is definitively the most international operating company, other companies are often being recommended when it concerns installations which are being built in the concerning countries. The Lloyd's Register (the list with vessels) is annually published by publisher Lloyd's Register-Fairplay and comprises information on all sea-going, motorized merchant navy vessels from 100 brt.
